The Japanese energy industry is currently changing dramatically in a way that we have never seen before. The most significant change, is the marketization of the electricity business. Previously, the electricity Rate was set by the utility company supplying each area based a level determined by the total cost of supply to that area. Now, with the acceleration of deregulation in the electricity industry, the electricity Price is determined by the traded level in the market that is composed of unspecified number of buyers and sellers. This paradigm shift from Rate to Price is currently tightening its grip on the industry. Given this new movement, electricity companies are having to radically change their business structure.

Tohoku EPCO Energy Trading Co., Inc. was established on June 30, 2017, as the company specialized for electricity and fuel trading to lead this movement and to create new value.
